Rhinoplasty in Buckhead and Atlanta

When it comes to our looks, one of the most common things many people are unhappy with is the nose. Many women and men struggle with low self-esteem stemming from how they feel about the shape or size of their nose. Because it is at the center of the face, even the slightest issue – whether you feel it’s a bit too large, are unhappy with the shape or angle of the bridge, etc. – can cause the nose and other facial features to appear out of balance. Rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping surgery that artfully refines the nasal contours to create an elegantly balanced and natural appearance.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is a nose reshaping procedure that can help to transform the shape, size, or positioning of the nose. This is an incredibly rewarding procedure that helps create a more balanced facial appearance and boosts self-confidence.

Dr. Sethna recommends rhinoplasty for women and men looking to…

  • Change the shape of the nose to improve balance with other facial features
  • Reduce or increase the size of the nasal bridge or tip
  • Change the projection angle of the nose
  • Reduce a hump or depression along the nasal bridge
  • Adjust the width or positioning of the nostrils
  • Correct general asymmetry of the nose

Revision Rhinoplasty: If you have undergone a previous nose surgery that you are unhappy with, you may be a good candidate for revision rhinoplasty with Dr. Sethna. As a specialist in complex surgeries of the face and neck, Dr. Sethna has the expertise and artistry needed to create beautifully balanced and natural-looking rhinoplasty outcomes for her patients.

Functional Rhinoplasty: In some cases, patients may need to undergo nose surgery for functional rather than cosmetic reasons, such as for the correction of a deviated septum, or airway obstruction. As a board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Sethna possesses the unique skill set and keen knowledge of the nasal anatomy to safely and effectively correct a variety of functional issues while also creating beautifully natural and balanced outcomes.

What is the Rhinoplasty Procedure Like?

You will have a private consultation with Dr. Sethna to discuss your specific concerns as well as your goal outcome. Based on your unique circumstances, Dr. Sethna will customize a procedure plan designed to provide you with your optimal and most natural-looking outcome. She will also provide you with detailed instructions for both before and after your surgery.

Your rhinoplasty will be performed by board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Anita Sethna. Your surgery will be performed under general anesthesia, so be sure to have a friend or loved one ready to drive you to and from surgery.

Dr. Sethna will begin your rhinoplasty procedure by making an incision either within the nose as a closed rhinoplasty, or across the columella (the strip of skin that separates your nostrils) as an open rhinoplasty. From either of these incision locations, Dr. Sethna will be able to access and carefully reshape the underlying bone and cartilage. The new shape of the nose will be created by removing small parts of cartilage and bone, and in some cases, by adding cartilage grafts. Once the desired shape is achieved, Dr. Sethna will close all incisions and place the necessary dressings over the treated area.

What’s Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a fairly complex surgery that does require a bit of a recovery period. Each rhinoplasty Dr. Sethna performs is completely unique to the individual patient, so recovery timelines will vary. Dr. Sethna will provide you with detailed instructions for caring for your nose after your rhinoplasty, and she will schedule follow up visits to monitor your healing and ensure optimal outcomes.

Following your surgery, you should expect to take 1-2 weeks off work. Bandages and a splint will need to be worn during the first week of recovery. Most patients feel well enough to get back to their normal routine after the first 7-10 days, but you may choose to take a bit more time off as bruising and swelling continues to subside over the first few weeks.

If you experience any unexpected side effects after treatment, please contact our office immediately.

What Can I Expect for my Rhinoplasty Results?

  • Initial Results at… 6 weeks
  • Final Results at… One year
  • Results last… Permanent

Although there will be some bruising and swelling, you will notice the new shape of your nose immediately after surgery. You will need to keep your nose bandaged for about a week, and it will take about three weeks for the majority of the bruising and swelling to fade. You will likely notice some gradual changes in the look of your nose until your final results at about one year after surgery.

While the healing time with rhinoplasty is a bit longer than other procedures, the wait is often well worth it. Rhinoplasty continues to be one of the most rewarding cosmetic procedures, as it works to create an elegantly balanced appearance of the full face.
