Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) in Buckhead and Atlanta

Your eyes can tell a lot about you. However, your age doesn’t have to be one of them. Drooping of the upper eyelids and puffiness of the lower lid area are common signs of aging that can add years to your appearance, and might even leave you looking constantly drowsy or upset. An eyelid lift (eyelid surgery) is an extremely effective cosmetic procedure that Dr. Sethna performs to refresh the eyelids for a younger, brighter look.

What is an Eyelid Lift?

An eyelid lift – also known as eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty – is a facial plastic surgery procedure that is performed to address age-related concerns of the upper or lower eyelid areas.

An upper eyelid lift helps to reduce drooping or sagging of the upper eyelid. As the skin loses elasticity with age, it can cause the eyelids to droop downward and may even cause some vision obstruction.

A lower eyelid lift targets puffiness or bags around the lower eyelids. Stubborn fat can begin to accumulate beneath the eyes as you get older, causing the area to become “puffy” or develop bags, often resulting in an aged and drowsy appearance.

Dr. Sethna recommends an eyelid lift for women and men looking to…

  • Reduce drooping or sagging of the upper eyelid
  • Reduce puffiness or bags beneath the eyes
  • Correct congenital disorders such as ptosis

What is the Eyelid Lift Procedure Like?

You will have a private consultation with Dr. Sethna to discuss your specific concerns as well as your goal outcome. Based on your unique circumstances, Dr. Sethna will customize a procedure plan designed to provide you with your optimal and most natural-looking outcome. She will also provide you with detailed instructions for both before and after your surgery.

An upper eyelid lift is performed by making a small incision within the eyelid, and carefully removing excess skin and tissue that’s causing it to droop downward. With a lower eyelid lift, Dr. Sethna will make a small incision along the lower lid. From there, she can remove any stubborn fat, or excess skin and tissue that might be causing the bags or puffiness beneath the eyes.

Most of Dr. Sethna’s eyelid lift patients benefit from having both an upper and lower lift as a single procedure. In some cases, she may just recommend either one or the other.

What’s Recovery Like After an Eyelid Lift?

Eyelid lift surgery will require a bit of recovery time after your procedure, though specifics will vary from patient to patient. Dr. Sethna will provide you with detailed instructions for caring for your eyes after surgery.

Most eyelid lift patients feel comfortable enough to return to work within the first 1-2 weeks. The majority of bruising and swelling should fade after about three weeks, but you can expect continued improvement as your skin heals over the next few months after your surgery.

If you experience any unexpected side effects after treatment, please contact our office immediately.

What Can I Expect for my Eyelid Lift Results?

  • Initial Results at… 10-14 days
  • Final Results at… 2-3 months
  • Results last… Permanent*

You will notice the changes in the look of your eyes immediately after your surgery. There will be some bruising and swelling, but much of this will fade during the first month. After about 2-3 months, your eyelids should be fully healed, revealing a younger and revitalized look of your eyes.

*No cosmetic surgery can fully stop the aging process. It’s important to keep in mind that while your results are permanent in a sense, your skin will continue to age normally. However, the procedure will have you looking years younger than if you had not had the surgery, allowing you to look and feel your best at any age.
