Laser Resurfacing in Buckhead and Atlanta

With each passing day, our skin is constantly changing and being affected by everything from the sun to the makeup we put on our faces. Over time, this can lead to a long list of skin imperfections including sun damage and spots, fine lines and wrinkles, dry or rough texture, and scarring (such as acne scars). Laser resurfacing is a great way to renew and rejuvenate the surface of the skin and correct a variety of common skin concerns.

What is Laser Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a non-surgical laser-based treatment that safely eliminates the outer layer of damaged skin cells. This process stimulates your body’s natural healing response to uncover refreshed, younger-looking skin.

Dr. Sethna recommends laser resurfacing for women and men looking to…

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun spots or sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Acne scars

Laser resurfacing may not be right for every patient. Dr. Sethna will carefully listen to your concerns and analyze your skin type to determine if you are a good candidate for laser resurfacing.

What is the Laser Resurfacing Procedure Like?

Laser resurfacing is a non-invasive skin treatment performed by Dr. Sethna on-site at our Atlanta cosmetic and reconstructive surgery practice.

You will have a private consultation with Dr. Sethna to discuss your specific concerns as well as your goal outcome. Based on your unique circumstances, Dr. Sethna will customize a treatment plan designed to provide you with your optimal and most natural-looking outcome. She will also provide you with detailed instructions for both before and after your treatment.

When you come in for your laser resurfacing, Dr. Sethna will numb the treatment area using a local anesthetic or topical ointment. General anesthesia or sedation is typically not required. During your treatment, Dr. Sethna will administer the laser energy in a careful scanning pattern across the area or areas of concern. As the laser energy moves across the skin’s surface, the old and damaged skin cells are carefully removed to reveal a younger and healthier complexion.

Depending on your personalized treatment, laser resurfacing sessions with Dr. Sethna should take no longer than 30-45 minutes.

What’s Recovery Like After Laser Resurfacing?

Once your laser resurfacing treatment is complete, you will be able to return home without any need for an overnight stay. Dr. Sethna will apply any necessary bandages to the treatment site, which you will then need to begin cleaning 4-5 times a day 24 hours after your treatment.

Laser resurfacing will require a bit of downtime as your skin heals itself during the first couple weeks after your treatment. Some swelling is to be expected, and your skin will appear red as with a mild sunburn. Your skin may also feel itchy and may sting a bit during the first few days of healing. Peeling is completely normal and happens about 5-7 days after your initial treatment.

Dr. Sethna will provide you with detailed care instructions to ensure optimal healing of your skin after laser resurfacing.

If you experience any unexpected side effects after treatment, please contact our office immediately.

What Can I Expect for my Laser Resurfacing Results?

  • Initial Results at… 1 week
  • Final Results at… 2 weeks
  • Results last… 6-12 months

Most of Dr. Sethna’s laser resurfacing patients begin seeing results within the first week of treatment. It’s important to keep in mind that any redness, swelling, and peeling is to be expected and are a normal part of the skin’s healing response. As your skin continues to heal, you will begin to notice the final results of your treatment at about two weeks.

Depending on your skin type and condition, your skin can continue to show the benefits of your laser resurfacing for up to a full year. Specific skin imperfections, such as acne scars, could be permanently treated with laser resurfacing. As the skin continues to age, you may notice lines, wrinkles, or pigmentation spots begin to return. A personalized treatment plan of ongoing laser skin resurfacing treatment sessions with Dr. Sethna can help maintain a youthful and glowing complexion for years to come.
