What is a Lip Flip?

A lip flip is a non-surgical alternative to a traditional lip lift. It is performed to correct drooping of the upper lip caused by age-related elongation of the philtrum (the grooved area between the nose and upper lip border). With a lip flip, Dr. Sethna uses a series of Botox injections made in the corners of the mouth and the cupid’s bow (the center of the upper lip where the lips dip downward). This helps to relax the underlying muscles and “flip” the upper lip up-and-out for a fuller, more youthful appearance.

The lip flip is different from a lip enhancement using fillers, which adds volume to the lips to increase fullness, rather than repositioning the lip.

What is the Lip Flip Treatment Like?

You will have a private consultation with Dr. Sethna to discuss your specific concerns as well as your goal outcome. Based on your unique circumstances, Dr. Sethna will customize a treatment plan designed to provide you with your optimal and most natural-looking outcome. She will also provide you with detailed instructions for both before and after your treatment.

Your lip flip will be performed by Dr. Sethna on-site at our Atlanta cosmetic and reconstructive surgery practice.

During your lip flip treatment, Dr. Sethna will inject Botox into the corners of your mouth and at the cupid’s bow in your lip. This treatment should take no longer than 20-30 minutes to complete, after which you can freely resume your normal routine.

What’s Recovery Like After a Lip Flip?

Like with regular Botox injections, there is very little to no downtime associated with a lip flip. You may experience some minor swelling and mild discomfort, but this should fade within the first couple days of treatment. Most patients are able to easily fit a lip flip into their daily routine without missing a beat.

What Can I Expect for my Lip Flip Results?

You will begin to notice the effects of your lip flip with Botox at about 3-4 days after your procedure. You can expect gradual improvements in the look and positioning of your lip with final results appearing at about 2-3 weeks.

The results of your lip flip procedure should last about 2-3 months and can be maintained with ongoing treatment sessions. If you are interested in longer-lasting results, Dr. Sethna can discuss alternative options with you such as fillers or a surgical lip lift.
